In 2018, Italgas embarked on a journey to reduce methane emissions by 83% by 2025 from their 2015 baseline. They tapped into the advantages of direct methane measurements, using Picarro technology to detect and quantify leaks in their distribution grid. The approach was a tremendous success, leading to an 81% emissions reduction by 2022. This strategy not only identified and fixed major leaks but also improved the accuracy of emission counts and identified emission hotspots. Italgas's case demonstrates how direct emission measurement technology can drive environmental responsibility in the gas sector.
